Do I need a referral to be treated by a physical therapist?
Maryland and Virginia currently have direct access to physical therapy services, meaning you do not need a referral from a doctor to be seen by a physical therapist.
How long after an injury should I wait to get treatment?
It is best to talk to a physical therapist as soon as you can after your injury or at the first onset of pain. Your physical therapist can offer recommendations in the initial healing process as well as determine when and if you will be appropriate to return for more PT sessions.
Will I have to stop participating in my sport/exercise routine while I am getting treatment?
Not necessarily. Depending on the severity of your injury, you will work with your physical therapist to determine the best return to sport/exercise plan.
How long will it take for me to get to 100%
This will be specific to your injury, your goals, and your effort to get back to sports. Your physical therapist can often give you an expected time frame for full recovery after a thorough physical therapy evaluation.
Why can I not use my insurance?
Currently, Virtual Physio is not contracted with any insurance companies and therefore cannot accept your insurance. By not contracting with insurance companies, this allows your physical therapist to determine and provide the best individualized care to you without limitations or the influence of insurance companies.
And did you say that its actually more cost-effective to not go through insurance?!
Most insurances currently require patients to pay $50-75 co-pays at EACH visit. On top of that, the average deductible is between $2500-5000, meaning that until you pay that amount out-of-pocket your insurance company won't cover any costs towards your visits. With Virtual Physio, you can rest assured that you're receiving premium care at an affordable cost that is almost certainly going to save you money over the course of your treatment plan.
Can I bill my insurance for reimbursement for my out-of-pocket expenses?
Yes. You will receive a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Please note that rates of reimbursement will vary by insurance company.
How much does it cost? Is it very expensive?
The total cost will be dependent on the recommended sessions and what services you utilize as determined by you and your physical therapist. See our package deals for more information on pricing.
Who will NOT benefit from physical therapy?
Anyone who doesn’t believe that physical therapy will work for them and is not willing to put in the active effort towards recovery will likely not benefit from physical therapy or working with a member of the Virtual Physio team.
Can I talk to a PT before I book to make sure this is right for me?
Yes! You can submit an inquiry form with more information on your condition and a member of the Virtual Physio team will be in contact to determine if physical therapy is right for you.
Why choose us vs. a big-box PT company?
In private practice setting, your physical therapist has more freedom to offer individualized care. At Virtual Physio, you receive one-one-one personalized care with a Doctor of Physical Therapy every session so that you are always receiving the best care. No aids, assistants, or being passed off to another team member after minimal time spent with your PT. By choosing to receive physical therapy through a private practice, you can assure you will achieve your optimal results in a timely and efficient manner.
How can a PT diagnose my injury and treat me even if they haven’t seen me in person?
All physical therapy appointments, whether in-person or virtual, start with a subjective exam in which your PT will ask you a series of questions related to your injury to determine potential sources of your pain or problem. This will help guide your physical therapist in selecting appropriate tests to confirm or deny your expected diagnosis. In addition to these tests, your physical therapist will also conduct a movement screening examination to determine the main “driver” of your pain or problem and offer you a few options for treatment. This can all be done without hands on care and from the comfort of your home or exercise environment where you may be having difficulties performing your normal daily tasks. Virtual physio conducts all sessions through a HIPPA-compliant online video software and the PT Everywhere Smart Phone App. If your physical therapist suspects you may need more hands on care, a package with in-person visits is available for purchase and may be recommended.
How do I know if I’m doing my exercises correctly?
Because of the online format of Virtual Physio, you have full access to the PT Everywhere library of exercises that give clear instructions and video demonstrations on how to perform your home exercise program. In addition, if you can also take a video of yourself completing the exercise to have your physio provide feedback in the app or discuss it at your next virtual appointment.
What payment methods are available?
We accept all major credit cards for payment. Payment is processed through Stripe or the PT Everywhere EMR system and is expected before any services can begin.
What should I wear to my physical therapy appointments?
Wear something that you can move in, like athletic clothing. Your physical therapist will likely have you perform some kind of exercises or movement assessment as part of your virtual session.
